Hi,
It would be great if you could share the projection and datum used for the India - states, districts, sub-district level shapefiles . The shapefiles which I have been able to georeference always seem to have this 'shifting' problem. It would be of great help to the user community in general.
Can the bhuvan images be used to georeference shapefiles of India?
Thanks and Regards,
Tilottama
projection and datum used for the India vector shapefiles
Re: projection and datum used for the India vector shapefile
It is in Geographic Coordinate system with WGS84 datum.
Bhuvan allows you to draw your own point/line/polygon and export them as shapefile.

Re: projection and datum used for the India vector shapefile
Hi Sonal,
Thanks for your reply. So, I assume that the source of the shapefiles (from the Survey of India) were also in WGS 84? or was some pre-processing required before they could match exactly with the boundaries of India at the state and district level? Please let us know.
Thanks,
Tilottama

yes, the source was in WGS84 only and no pre-processing has been done.
Re: projection and datum used for the India vector shapefile
Thanks Sonal. However, through my literature review I do think the Survey of India uses UTM projection for certain parts of India (at least). If the data are in projected coordinate system, and then we place the data on Bhuvan, will they match up?
Thanks.
Thanks.
