The Students Innovation Festival (SIF) - Space Hackathon 2023 is a thrilling extension of the broader Student Innovation Festival (SIF) initiative along with energy utilization in various fields, focusing specifically on the realm of space technology and exploration. Space Hackathon 2023 is a platform for you to merge your passion for space with innovative technology. Engage with like-minded students in the field of space exploration, encouraging them to think critically and come up with innovative solutions to real-world challenges leveraging space technology and receive mentorship from the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) NRSC experts, as you tackle real-world problem statements using the Bhuvan Portal. You will have the chance to push the boundaries of technology, gain hands-on experience, and potentially make your mark on the future of space exploration.

A series of space-related challenges are presented to participants, often from current issues in the space industry or scientific community. Satellite technology, space exploration, and space-based applications are some of the topics covered by these challenges. The festival typically includes mentorship, seminars, and keynote sessions with renowned scientists, astronauts, and space industry leaders. Valuable insights and inspiration are provided by these events. The chance to connect with like-minded individuals and potential future partners is available to participants.

1. Enhancing User Experience: Crafting Visually Engaging Service Visualizations for Diverse Sectors with Enhanced Page Responsiveness of Bhuvan through UI/UX Principles

The challenge entails revamping the presentation of Bhuvan services across various sectors by infusing superior UI/UX practices to ensure not just aesthetic appeal but also increased responsiveness of web pages. This aims to captivate diverse users while ensuring a seamless and engaging experience of Bhuvan Landing Page.

2. Empowering Geospatial Exploration: An Innovative Online Processing Platform with Natural Language Scripting Capabilities

The geospatial online processing platform with custom scripting capabilities revolutionizes the way users interact with spatial data. By integrating natural language queries (both audio and text), this platform aims to simplify and enhance geospatial exploration, allowing users to derive valuable insights through a user-friendly and efficient interface. This application should be able to query admin boundaries, themes and must also incorporate various conditional statements.

3. Unified Mobile App integrating into a common platform with latest state of the art technology

The mobile app solution must adopt state of the art technologies.
Important features of solution:
1. Registration of users,
2. Approval mechanism of user by manager,
3. Accommodate multiple projects with different workflows,
4. Geo-fencing to address monitoring component,
5. Voice with NLP based search to get details of feature from vector / raster based datasets,

4. Framework Model for Identifying, detecting and Report for Cyber Security on Bhuvan Portal

The organization of technologies, procedures, and methods designed to protect networks, devices, programs, and data from attack, damage, malware, viruses, hacking, data theft, or unauthorized access is referred to as cyber security. The primary goal of cyber security is to protect the confidentiality of all organizational data from both external and internal threats, as well as disruptions caused by natural disasters. Bhuvan is accessed by the users across the world and is prone to cyber-attacks. There are many state-of-art security devices and solutions implemented to tackle the attacks. However, it is imperative to utilize AI/ ML models to analyze the patterns and Behavior Analysis of the logs collected by the Network Security Devices and to automate / alert mechanisms to report the system / network administrators in near- real – time basis.

5. Uncovering User Behavior Dynamics with Machine Learning algorithms

As part of User behavior analysis, leverage machine learning techniques to analyze and gain insights from user behavior data. Participants has to focus on understanding user interactions within a given platform or application, identifying patterns, predicting future behavior and potential risks if any. The goal is to enhance user experience, personalize content, and optimize platform engagement. This in-turn acts facilitate automatic feedback mechanism.

6. Voice-Activated Search Assistant: Revolutionizing Query Resolution through Conversational AI

The involves designing and implementing a chatbot equipped with voice response capabilities to effectively address user search queries. The topic leverages natural language processing and voice recognition technologies to create an intuitive and efficient conversational interface. The chatbot should provide accurate and context-aware responses, enhancing the user experience for search-related interactions.

7. Development of Bhuvan Generic framework using micro services architecture.

The workloads on Bhuvan web applications hosted on live environment vary continuously and needs a flexible platform for hosting requirements. A container-based approach will highly improve the efficiency in terms of resource utilization and for ease of maintenance. Containerization and Microservices are the latest software architectural approach that decomposes a complex application into a set of small, independent services, each responsible for a specific function. Containerization involves packaging these microservices and their dependencies into lightweight, portable containers. When both are combined in which it enables the developers to build and deploy the applications that are highly flexible and easy to manage.

8. Heritage AR/VR Challenge: Preserving and Enhancing Cultural Heritage through Augmented and Virtual Reality

The Heritage AR/VR Challenge invites participants to create immersive Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) experiences for heritage sites, monuments, and cultural landmarks. This hackathon aims to harness technology to preserve, educate, and engage visitors with historical and cultural treasures in innovative ways.

9. Optimal Geospatial Indexing System for India

This challenge seeks to develop an efficient geospatial indexing system tailored specifically for India. Similar to existing solutions like S2, H3, and Geo-hash, the goal is to create a novel geospatial indexing system optimized for the unique geographic characteristics and data needs of India.

10. Geospatial Game Creation - Satellite Image Guessing Challenge

The challenge is to design and develop an interactive geospatial game where participants guess the real-world location based on satellite images of the area. Similar to popular games like Geoguessr, this competition aims to promote geospatial awareness and problem-solving skills while making learning about the world's geography fun and engaging.

11. Intelligent Data Catalogue

With diversified amount of data in Bhuvan, an efficient approach to develop an intelligent data cataloguing service shall be developed which will be helpful for quick querying for the user

12. Data Redundancy Removal Algorithm

With the steep increase in the unstructured data, leading to cumbersome management, an efficient data management technique/algorithm to identify and display for decision making to delete/retain the duplicate datasets.

13. Data Dynamics using DL/ML over a time scale – A cluster/trend analysis

A dynamic temporal analytics system that integrates time-sensitive data, utilizing machine learning algorithms to discern evolving patterns, trends, and anomalies, enabling real-time insights and informed decision-making in a dynamic temporal context.

14. Feature Extraction from RS HR data using AIML Ex– Farm Pond, Check Dam, Nala Pond, Dug wells, High Tension tower, windmill, electric substation, sewage treatment plant, warehouse

The features Farm Pond, Check Dam, Nala Pond, Dug wells, High Tension tower, windmill, electric substation, sewage treatment plant, warehouse require high resolution datasets. On the fly feature extraction and display the features detected by the model. Since more than a single feature is possible in a scene, model the problem as a multi-label feature extraction.

15. Radiometric Normalization of Temporal Satellite Data Using DL/ML for Seamless Mosaic Creation.

Bhuvan hosts a diverse range of Indian remote sensing satellite images, spanning spatial resolutions from 50 meters to 50 centimetres. To enhance visualization on the Earth Observation portal, a contrast enhanced country-wide mosaic has been created. These images, acquired over time spans ranging from one month to few years, depend on the acquisition capabilities of satellites to cover the entirety of the Indian landmass. The upcoming challenge lies in the radiometric normalization of these datasets to generate a cohesive and seamless mosaic.

16. Enlightening Horizons: Crafting High Definition Nightscapes through Dynamic Fusion of Night Time Light with DL/ML and Optical/SAR data

In this quest for innovation, consider the possibilities of a ground breaking solution that leverages the combined strengths of NTL imagery, DL/ML algorithms, and conventional methods. By undertaking this challenge, participants contribute to the advancement of technology, paving the way for a sophisticated approach to data fusion to generate high definition NTL product, that propels us into a new era of understanding our surroundings.

17. Social Impact Analysis using NTL data on various socio economic factors

The significance of nighttime light data in socio‐economic research has grown substantially, providing valuable insights across diverse domains. Extensive research has been conducted using nighttime light (NTL) data to examine Urbanization, Socio-Economic activities, and Environmental Changes. Enhanced products, advanced algorithms for analyzing nighttime lights, along with the integration of other Earth observations data and computing platforms, present great potential for understanding environmental changes. Study of NTL data focusing on the impact of electrification on Rural sectors, Education, Agriculture activities, Settlements Expansion, and Patterns can be taken up.

18. Landscape Dynamics, Hotspot and Prediction

A real-time data analytics system that employs machine learning algorithms to detect and highlight hot spots, pinpointing areas of intense activity or significance within a dataset for actionable insights.

19. Strategic Aadhaar Centre Placement with Night Lights and Census Data

This challenge leverages nighttime light, population density, census data and existing Aadhaar centers to strategically identify optimal locations for new Aadhaar centers. This data-driven approach ensures efficient center placement, meeting high-demand areas while addressing the diverse needs of local population. By integrating these factors, proposed solution optimizes accessibility and enhances the overall effectiveness of Aadhaar services, revolutionizing the Aadhaar center placement process for improved coverage and user accessibility.

20. Land Use Land Cover Level-2 classification using AIML

Automatic categorization and classification of Land Use Land Cover (LULC) is important for sustainable development, autonomous agriculture, and urban planning. The challenge before us revolves around creating an Automated LULC classification system. This specific task is formulated as a multi-class classification problem, requiring the development of a model that can precisely categorize various LULC Level-2 classes.

21. A Comprehensive Analysis of Land Use and Land Cover Classes Impact on State-wise Economic Growth: The Dynamics between LULC Trends and GDP

This project aims to explore the intricate relationship between the Land Use and Land Cover (LULC) classes of each Indian state and its corresponding Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from various activities such as Production of total food grains, Agriculture, Net irrigated area and Industry, over multiple years. By exploring the relationship between environmental characteristics and economic performance, this study seeks to unravel the underlying patterns and correlations that contribute to state-level economic dynamics.
